Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge: SamDoum's Day 11

Hello all!

It's day 11 of the painting challenge and I have a fresh new painting for you today. As discussed in my last post I promised to give you my second reason for choosing "Kaleidoscopes in Ink" as the theme for my 30 paintings in 30 days painting challenge and here it is:

Well, reason number two is that drawing these kaleidoscope drawings allow for me to be 100% creative. When I draw my kaleidoscopes, I'm not just copying what I see around me in life and nature, I'm instead, creating something unique and new. Something that's never been seen before and something that can not be seen anywhere else except on my canvas or piece of illustration board. I'm not drawing from observation, instead I'm drawing from my imagination, and when I create each kaleidoscope piece, I'm sharing something with the viewer that would, otherwise, never have been seen by them before, had I not shared it, because the idea for the painting originated in my head, and not anywhere in our natural landscape or environment. It truly is an amazing thing to me.

So you might ask, if the ideas for these kaleidoscope paintings originate in my head, what am I thinking about when I draw them? Well, I'll tell you what in my next blog post. Stay tuned . . .

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge: SamDoum's Day 10

It's day 10 of the 30 paintings in 30 days painting challenge and I have a new tenth painting for you today!

As mentioned in my last blog post, I promised I'd tell you why I chose to do kaleidoscopes in ink for my 30 paintings in 30 days painting challenge. Those who have followed my blog in the past know that my artistic focus in the past has been primarily painting women and children and African American daily life. But why the sudden change now? Here is the reason:

Well there are two reasons really:

Reason #1) I'm a busy mom of three little girls and I'm really strapped for time. Between all of the cooking, cleaning, preparing meals, folding clothes, doing laundry, and washing dishes, there really doesn't leave that much time for painting. However, when I draw my kaleidoscope drawings, they usually take only about an hour out of the day to complete and I can spend the rest of the time in my day focusing on my family and spending time with them. And so, doing kaleidoscope drawings (for the 30 day painting challenge) allows me to meet my goal of one new painting a day, but still allows me to spend time with my family. All of those 20"x30" paintings that I've been accustomed to doing take a bit more time to complete. And I could never do thirty of them in 30 days with the way my family life is currently. So I restricted myself to a smaller painting canvas of 6"x6."

But there's also another reason. What's that? Well you'll just have to read my next blog post in order to find out what.

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge: SamDoum's Day 9

It's day 9 of the 30 paintings in 30 days painting challenge and I have a new ninth painting for you today!

Beauty in red, white, and blue! And despite all the twirls, swirls and curls, this one looks a little masculine to me, as the color palette is a bit masculine. Usually in the past my kaleidoscopes have been "pretty," but this one to me is kind of "handsome," and I think even males might like this one. What d'ya think?

This one is modeled after the colors of Independence Day, as I discussed in my last blog post that Independence Day would be my theme for today.  But I'm running out of holidays, so time to switch it up. No more holiday themes in my next blog posts. Instead I plan to work freely using all colors of the rainbow in my remaining kaleidoscopes (for the 30 day challenge) with out restricting any of my color palates.

But why all the Kaleidoscopes? That is, why did I choose "Kaleidoscopes in Ink" as my theme for the 30 paintings in 30 days painting challenge? . . . I could have done still lifes, or portraits, or florals, for example. But why the kaleidoscopes?

White, oranges, and blacks: they're the colors of Halloween, and though it's not Halloween yet, SamDoum Art is celebrating early with Kaleidoscope number 8!

Sweet potatoes, turkey, green beans and pumpkin pie! It's day 7 and I have a new painting themed after thanksgiving for you today, as I had promised I'd do another holiday theme in my last blog post. 

Reds, yellows, oranges and browns, they're the colors of autumn and fall is coming around!

Yes, autumn is fast approaching, and though it's not Thanksgiving yet, SamDoum Art is bringing in the new season with kaleidoscope number 7!

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge: SamDoum's Day 6

It's Day 6 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, and it's Valentines Day! (Well, at least in the world of SamDoum Art anyway) as I have my new sixth painting for you today!

Now, what's today's color scheme?- Why, pinks, reds, purples and the color black of course -- just for fun!

What day is it tomorrow? Perhaps it will be Thanksgiving or Independence Day. We'll just have to see . . .

I like this one a lot. It's perfect for a little girls room.  I'm thinking I'll make more of these and frame them and put them in my three little girls rooms. They love these kaleidoscope paintings a lot. In fact, they keep calling them "snowflakes", which is funny because that's partially where I draw my inspiration from when I draw them.

I restricted my color palette for this particular kaleidoscope painting on purpose so that all of the colors would represent Valentine's Day. And tomorrow I'll restrict my color palette again in order to represent a new holiday.

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge: SamDoum's Day 5

It's Day 5 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, and I have my new fifth painting for you today!

Now, as discussed in my last blog post, I promised I'd mention some other sources of inspiration  for my Kaleidoscope Paintings and here they are: Pinwheels and snowflakes. Remember those? -- Those cut out snowflakes that you made in elementary school and those paper pinwheels on a wooden stick that you would blow on to make them move? Brings back a lot of memories doesn't it? My siblings and I had a lot of fun when we were kids, playing with these simple toys, especially the pinwheels. We really enjoyed ourselves with them. The funny thing, though, is that I haven't seen one of those pinwheels in years. Perhaps I should look for some for my three little girls to play with. I'm sure they'd love them.

Anyway, yep, so that just about wraps up my sources of inspiration for my Kaleidoscope drawings.

The one below kind of reminds me of X-mas (with all the greens and all the reds), which kind of gives me an idea: In my next blog post, tomorrow, it's Valentines Day! -- well, at least in the world of SamDoum Art! Enjoy and 'til later fellow art lovers!
