Day 27: 30 in 30: Every and Anything Series

Hello everyone! It's January 27, 2015 and today is Day 27 of my 30 Painting's in 30 Days Painting Challenge!

My theme for this 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is "Every and Anything" and over the next 3 days I will be painting every and anything from landscapes, to pet portraits; from people portraits, to still lifes; and so forth! (To learn more about why I chose this theme click HERE.)

This is a still life oil painting of several sunflowers & a daisy. I love the restricted color palette most about this piece: the yellows, the browns, the whites, and the little hints of green on the leaves and stems of the flowers.

I see this piece as peaceful, calm, subtle, sunny, and soothing. It just creates that sort of mood in me when I look at it. It just gives me a "quiet" smile when I look at it. It makes me happy!

Anyway, tomorrow is Day 28! And then after that, I will be posting only two more paintings for this challenge! Can you believe it? We are almost there . . . Yay!

Why Metal & Glass?

Yesterday I mentioned that I will be studying metal and glass for the 30 in 30 Challenge, coming September 2014. And I also told you that I would be painting metal and glass because I wanted to strengthen my skills as an artist.

How can painting metal and glass strengthen my skills? Well, with nearly all metal and all glass objects, there are reflections, and these objects naturally pick up colors from around them.

Now, when we think of metals such as copper, bronze, or silver, you would think that an artist who is getting ready to paint these colors would only use hues of browns, gold, and greys. However, that's not how metals and glass work. Metal and glass pick up colors from the objects around them. For example if there is a silver teapot on the table resting beside a nearby red apple, the silver teapot would naturally pick up some of the red.

Why do I bring these things up?

Well because in order to see the red hues on that silver teapot created by the reflection, I have to look CLOSELY at what I'm painting, and IMPLEMENT what I am seeing. Sometimes, every once in a while, we artists need a lesson in looking. My studying glass and metal will make me look at the objects that I paint, a little more closer, thus creating a more beautiful painting.

On another note, today's painting is not of glass nor metal, but it is a still life two yellow squashes and a jug.

I must say, out of all of the still lifes that I've been painting recently, this particular pastel painting is one of my favorites! Love the earthy colors, the glistening reflections and the deep shadows. I'd say it's a very successful piece. Whad'ya think? Hope you like it as much as I do. Pretty cool how a few simple objects can make such a great painting. Love "The Pipe, The Yellow Flower, and The Canister." I hope that you do as well!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I posted a painting titled "Yellow Bird Perched," and today I have another painting of a yellow bird for you, though this one is perched on a branch in the snow. Though this one is mostly yellow, as well, he does not appear to be the exact same bird as in yesterdays painting. I felt this painting was appropriate for today because of the current weather in Pittsford, NY with all the cold and frigid temperatures, and the snow and all. I guess not all birds fly south in the winter. This little guy is staying put in his tree on a snow-covered branch.

Hello fellow art lovers!

I found this little guys photo on "Paint my Photo" and couldn't wait to paint him. He's such a beautiful little bird, isn't he? But I confess that I don't even know what type of bird he is. He is cute anyway.

It's still freezing here in Pittsford, NY. The girls wanted to go out yesterday to play, but couldn't because it's been advised by the news media that everyone remain indoors, if they can, as the weather is too cold and frigid. Hopefully, it'll warm up some later on throughout the week.
