Why Metal & Glass?

"Jug with Squash" Oil on Canvas, 8"x10", Original Painting , $25+$10.95 Shipping & Handling

Yesterday I mentioned that I will be studying metal and glass for the 30 in 30 Challenge, coming September 2014. And I also told you that I would be painting metal and glass because I wanted to strengthen my skills as an artist.

How can painting metal and glass strengthen my skills? Well, with nearly all metal and all glass objects, there are reflections, and these objects naturally pick up colors from around them.

Now, when we think of metals such as copper, bronze, or silver, you would think that an artist who is getting ready to paint these colors would only use hues of browns, gold, and greys. However, that's not how metals and glass work. Metal and glass pick up colors from the objects around them. For example if there is a silver teapot on the table resting beside a nearby red apple, the silver teapot would naturally pick up some of the red.

Why do I bring these things up?

Well because in order to see the red hues on that silver teapot created by the reflection, I have to look CLOSELY at what I'm painting, and IMPLEMENT what I am seeing. Sometimes, every once in a while, we artists need a lesson in looking. My studying glass and metal will make me look at the objects that I paint, a little more closer, thus creating a more beautiful painting.

On another note, today's painting is not of glass nor metal, but it is a still life two yellow squashes and a jug.

I painted this painting while living at our old home in Pittsford. I hope you enjoy!

My Liittle Secret

"Glass & Grapes" Oil on Canvas, 8"x10", Original Painting , $25+$10.95 Shipping & Handling
Alright, so here's my other little secret: Starting September 1st, 2014, Leslie Saeta will be hosting another 30 Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge and I will be participating in it, again! So come September 2014, I will be unveiling a completely, different, new painting every day for 30 days!

My theme, you say?

Well, the first time I did the challenge I did 30 "Kaleidoscopic Snowflakes" as my theme and then for my second challenge, my theme had been "Wildlife and Animals". But this new September's theme will be "Metal & Glass". For my next 30 in 30 challenge I will be studying reflections, and light, and everything that sparkles! I will also be studying shadows, and color.

I chose "Metal & Glass" as my theme, in order to help me grow in my skills as an artist. How can studying Metal and Glass strengthen my skills as an artist, you ask?

Well, you'll just have to wait until tomorrow's blog post in order to find out how.

Today's featured painting, displays not only grapes, but glass, and there will be a whole lot of more paintings like this one coming soon, so stay tuned!

Anyway, 'til later fellow art lovers!

Guess What?

"Beyond the Mountains" Oil on Canvas, 8"x10", Original Painting , $25+$10.95 Shipping & Handling
Hello all!

Yesterday I mentioned that I would be showing you some of the paintings that I have been painting over the summer, particularly, the ones from our old address. Well, as you can see above, I kept my promise. The painting above is a beautiful romantic scene, filled with blue and green mountains reflected upon a quiet river which can be seen just past the top of the trees.

I love the colors in this one, and I love the spec of yellow in the clouds, creating just a tiny hint of the sun peeking through, on a cloudy day.

I had such fun painting this one, as well, and I really think that I have to get back into doing landscapes. I used to do a lot of them when I was younger, and they were my favorite kind of painting to do at some point.

In other news . . . Guess what?

What? Well, I'll tell you! Just not in today's blog post! :) :) :) :) HA HA HA he he he!

Sooooo. . . stay tuned to see tomorrows post if you wanna know what!

Until then, "Til later, fellow art lovers!

Oh my Goodness! Boooooooooooy!

"Unwrapped Orange" - $25.00 + $10.95 Shipping and Handling
Original, 8"x 10" Painting, Oil on Canvas
Oh my goodness! Booooooy, time really flies, when you are being blessed! So many new things have happened since I've last written on this blog. And yes, I've still been painting, but I decided to take a short break, from this blog, in order to enjoy our new home, my husband and our children.

You read correctly: yep, we just recently moved into a new home! : A large beautiful, gorgeous and spacious home, and it's ours to keep! Can't believe it! Prior to our recent move we had only been renting, but now we are new homeowners!

Everyday I wake up in our new home and it feels like a dream. I find myself thanking God every day, all day, for all of the blessings, and not just for our new home!

Perhaps the greatest blessing, however, is having the sanity, the non-tortured  peace of mind, to finally be able to enjoy my blessings. As many of you know I've struggled with both paranoid schizophrenia and depression in the past. I'm still schizophrenic, as there is no current cure for schizophrenia, but my symptoms have reduced tremendously. Though I still hear the voices, I am still able to function at a great capacity, as the voices no longer yell in my ears, issuing one threat after the other, with no relief as they had in the past. Yes, I still hear them, true, but now they are more like whispers. And August 2nd of this year marked the third year anniversary of my last  discharge from Strong Memorial Hospital, having experienced my last schizophrenic episode, there. So I've been blessed!

About the depression?: well yes, I still suffer from some depressed days, but for the most part I've been extremely happy, and most of this is due to my having peace of mind from the voices!

Today's painting was painted in my basement studio while we were still living at our old address. Over the next few days, I will be posting paintings from those times. However, these new paintings that I will post have never been seen online, well . . . Until now! So Stay tuned to see what painting I unveil tomorrow!

Until then, take care and God bless!
