Welcome to The Blog of SamDoum Art by SamDoum!:
This is a blog about the artistic process behind SamDoum Art and it's owner Samara Doumnande (SamDoum) of Rochester, New York. It is a blog about what inspires SamDoum and all of the beauty that she is still able to see despite living in the midst of voices, as a paranoid schizophrenic. You are invited to join SamDoum online at http://www.SamDoumArt.com to view all of her remarkable paintings and drawings
Sweet
potatoes, turkey, green beans and pumpkin pie! It's day 7 and I have a
new painting themed after thanksgiving for you today, as I had promised I'd do another holiday theme in my last blog post.
Reds, yellows, oranges
and browns, they're the colors of autumn and fall is coming around!
Yes,
autumn is fast approaching, and though it's not Thanksgiving yet, SamDoum Art is bringing in the new season
with kaleidoscope number 7!
In my next blog post, it'll be Halloween.
I hope you enjoy!

Kaleidoscope #7: 30 Day Painting Challenge: Day 7
$50.00 , 6"x6", Ink on Illustration Board
Did you Know? . . .
Day 7 : Kaleidoscope Fact #7: The kaleidoscope can display an infinite amount of images and no two people could ever view the exact same image through a kaleidoscope: as the views are forever changing.
It's Day 6 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days
challenge, and it's Valentines Day! (Well, at least in the world of SamDoum Art anyway) as I have my new sixth painting for you today!
Now, what's today's color scheme?- Why, pinks, reds, purples and the color black of course -- just for fun!
What day is it tomorrow? Perhaps it will be Thanksgiving or Independence Day. We'll just have to see . . .
I like this one a lot. It's perfect for a little girls room. I'm thinking I'll make more of these and frame them and put them in my three little girls rooms. They love these kaleidoscope paintings a lot. In fact, they keep calling them "snowflakes", which is funny because that's partially where I draw my inspiration from when I draw them.
I restricted my color palette for this particular kaleidoscope painting on purpose so that all of the colors would represent Valentine's Day. And tomorrow I'll restrict my color palette again in order to represent a new holiday.
Until then, I hope you enjoy! 'Til later fellow art lovers!

Kaleidoscope #6: 30 Day Painting Challenge: Day 6
$50.00 , 6"x6", Ink on Illustration Board
Did you Know? . . .
Day 6 : Kaleidoscope Fact #6: The first real exhibition of kaleidoscopes featured as an art form took place in 1980.
It's Day 5 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days
challenge, and I have my new fifth painting for you today!
Now,
as discussed in my last blog post, I promised I'd mention some other
sources of
inspiration for my Kaleidoscope Paintings and here they are: Pinwheels and snowflakes. Remember those? -- Those cut out snowflakes that you made in elementary school and those paper pinwheels on a wooden stick that you would blow on to make them move? Brings back a lot of memories doesn't it? My siblings and I had a lot of fun when we were kids, playing with these simple toys, especially the pinwheels. We really enjoyed ourselves with them. The funny thing, though, is that I haven't seen one of those pinwheels in years. Perhaps I should look for some for my three little girls to play with. I'm sure they'd love them.
Anyway, yep, so that just about wraps up my sources of inspiration for my Kaleidoscope drawings.
The one below kind of reminds me of X-mas (with all the greens and all the reds), which kind of gives me an idea: In my next blog post, tomorrow, it's Valentines Day! -- well, at least in the world of SamDoum Art! Enjoy and 'til later fellow art lovers!

Kaleidoscope #5: 30 Day Painting Challenge: Day5
$50.00 , 6"x6", Ink on Illustration Board
Day5 : Kaleidoscope Fact #5: In David Brewster's (the guy who created the kaleidoscope) Treatise on the Kaleidoscope, Brewster calculated that 24 fragments of glass in a kaleidoscopes object box could create more than 1.4x1033 views.
It's Day 4 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days
challenge, and I have my new fourth painting for you today!
Now,
as discussed in my last blog post, I promised I'd mention another
source of
inspiration for my Kaleidoscope Paintings and here it is: Aside from Islamic art and architecture, another
inspirational source that I draw from are mandalas.
What are mandalas you ask? Well, a mandala is a spiritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism which has radial balance, just like my kaleidoscope drawings. Here are some examples of mandalas below:
In my next blog post, I'll discuss some more artistic sources that I pull from for inspiration while drawing my kaleidoscope drawings. For now, please

It's Day 3 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days
challenge, and I have my new third painting for you today!
Now, as discussed in my last blog post, I promised I'd tell you a little more about where I draw my inspiration from when I draw these kaleidoscope paintings.
Perhaps the greatest inspirational source that I draw from is Islamic art and architecture. As some may know Islam law (for some) forbids animal and human imagery. Thus a lot of Islamic architects, artists, and designers rely heavily on shapes, lines, colors, and geometric forms.
I've been very fortunate to study art history (inclusive of Islamic art history) in both high school as well as in college. My professors would present images on a slide projector, images taken by camera from all places around the globe. And as to where Islamic art is concerned: well, I fell in love with it. The works of Islamic artists are so detailed, elaborate, intricate, ornate, and elegant. Islamic art is beautiful, meticulous, and particular.
Just look at some of these designs below:
Interior of a mosque in Erdine Turkey
Mirab with mosaic tile from Iran
Like Islamic artists and designers, I rely heavily with geometric forms and shapes when I draw my Kaleidoscope paintings. But there are other sources that I draw from as well when I do my kaleidoscope paintings. In my next blog post, I'll mention another source of my
inspiration for my Kaleidoscope Paintings. For now, please
enjoy Day 3's painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge! Enjoy and 'til later fellow art lovers!

Kaleidoscope #3: 30 Day Painting Challenge: Day3
$50.00 , 6"x6", Ink on Illustration Board
It's Day 2 of Leslie Saeta's 30 painting in 30 days painting challenge and I have my new second painting for you today! This one is pretty cool. I love the greens, reds, and blues.
Now, as discussed in my last blog post, I promised to tell you a little more about where the come from:
Where did they come from? Well, it all started out when I was working as a sales representative, taking inbound calls at a well known company here in Rochester, NY. Sometimes, and especially on Sundays, calls were slow and I would get really bored. And so, if I wasn't reading my Bible on slow days (I did this a lot--It's the greatest book of all time in my opinion), I would just sit at my desk and doodle a little. And over time these drawings became known as "Kaleidoscope" drawings.
Occasionally, someone would come up to my desk and comment on how beautiful the drawings were. And one person even said I should think about selling them. But at that phase of my life I didn't take being an artist seriously, as I only drew and painted as a hobby, for fun.
But now that I have SamDoum Art, well, I'm selling them! (Smiles).
In my next blog post, I'll tell you a little more about where I draw my inspiration from for my so called "Kaleidoscope Paintings." I hope you enjoy!
Kind Regards,
-SamDoum
Kaleidoscope #2: 30 Day Painting Challenge: Day 2
$50.00 , 6"x6", Ink on Illustration Board
Today is the big day! Day 1 of Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge is finally
here! And as promised, I have a new painting!
Well, it's not actually a
painting, as it's more like a drawing--drawn in ink. And it's a
kaleidoscope drawing! These are so fun to do and they are really one of my favorite things to do! I love drawing them
while I'm watching TV or listening to music. They are so relaxing to do
and every time I do them, I create something completely new! Each one is
something new--something completely different, and unique. I love the collision of the lines, colors, and shapes: all in one place, working together in order to create balance, order, and harmony!
And so, my fellow lovers of art, if you didn't know ahead of time, this is what one of my "Kaleidoscope Paintings" look like. In the next blog post, I'll tell you a little more about where they come from. I hope you enjoy!
